Photo challenges (also known as photo tasks or "Fotoaufgaben" in German) are prepared photo missions that guests can complete during an event. Instead of hoping guests will spontaneously capture interesting moments, photo challenges give concrete instructions like "Photograph the funniest dance move", "Take a group selfie with the bride and groom", or "Find the best dessert photo".

Yes! You can create unlimited custom challenges with your own text, images, and point values. Write descriptions in multiple languages for international events. You also have access to 100+ pre-made templates that you can import and customize.
2How many challenges can I create per event?
From the Premium plan, as many as you like — there is no upper limit. As a guideline we recommend 8 to 15 challenges: enough variety without overwhelming guests.
3Can guests complete challenges without downloading an app?
Absolutely. Guests scan a QR code and see all available challenges directly in their phone's browser. No app download, no account creation, no registration. It works on any smartphone with a camera and browser.
4Are there pre-made challenge templates?
Yes, Photogala offers a library of 100+ pre-made challenge templates organized by event type: weddings, parties, corporate events, vacations, and more. You can import individual challenges or entire template sets with one click, then customize them to your needs.
5Can I set time limits on challenges?
Yes. You can set both an unlock time (when a challenge becomes available) and a lock time (when it ends). A “dance floor challenge” could, for example, start at 10 pm and end at midnight. This is part of photo challenges and therefore available from the Premium plan.
6How do guests see the available challenges?
After scanning the QR code or opening the event link, guests see a list of all available challenges on their phone. Each challenge shows its name, description, image (if set), and point value. Locked challenges show their unlock condition so guests know what to aim for.
7Can I print challenge cards for tables?
Yes! Photogala's PDF export feature generates beautiful, printable challenge cards. You can place them on tables at your event, include them in invitations, or display them on a poster. Guests can browse challenges on paper and complete them digitally on their phone.
8Do photo challenges work at large events (500+ guests)?
Yes. Challenges, points and the leaderboard run in real time regardless of the number of guests. On the Deluxe plan, up to 500 guests can upload and play themselves. At large events in particular, challenges help spread photos across the whole evening and every corner of the venue.
9Can challenges be displayed in multiple languages?
Yes. Every challenge can have descriptions in multiple languages. Guests see challenges in their preferred language based on their browser settings. This is perfect for international weddings, multinational corporate events, or multilingual communities.
10How are points awarded for completed challenges?
Each challenge has configurable point values: initial points for the first solution and repeat points for subsequent submissions. When a guest uploads a photo and assigns it to a challenge, the points are awarded automatically and reflected on the real-time leaderboard. You can set different point values per challenge to incentivize more creative or difficult tasks.
