What happens to my data?

In short: the organiser of your event decides about the gallery and its content. Photogala runs the technology on their behalf – storage period, visibility and features such as face recognition are their settings, not ours.

What data comes up at all

• Your name in the event – either a nickname you pick when joining, or your registered account with its email address.
• The photos and videos you upload – including the image information stored inside the file, such as capture time, camera model and, if your device records it, the place the shot was taken.
• Your activity in the event – likes, comments, solved tasks and points collected.

What you can handle yourself

• Delete your own photos. Your uploads are yours, you can remove them one by one – see How do I delete my own photo?
• Remove your selfie and face data. If you used the people search, you delete your selfie together with the face data computed from it – see Face recognition and privacy.
• Delete your account. Registered users delete their account for good in the account settings – see How do I delete my account or my data?

There is no one-click data export

Photogala does not offer a self-service function that downloads all of your data at once. You can save individual photos any time while the gallery is open. For full disclosure, contact the organiser.

What you control yourself sits in your profile – nickname, picture and your photos. ① your profile picture, ② your name with the pencil that changes the nickname, below it points, published photos and the last visit, ③ Account Settings, ④ your Task Progress.

What only the organiser can do

• Tell you what is stored about you.
• Photos by other guests that show you. You can only delete your own uploads. For someone else’s shot, use the reporting route in the gallery or ask the organiser directly – see Your privacy.
• Object to automatic face recognition across the whole event.

You will find their contact details in your event’s legal pages – they also state who is responsible for the processing and what rights you have.

Example

After the party you want to clear your traces. Three things you can do yourself: delete your own 34 uploads via the context menu, remove your selfie and face data in the filter under Filter by People, and delete your account in the account settings. What remains are four photos by the neighbour that you appear in – those are his, not yours: for them you use the reporting route in the gallery or ask the organiser. And if you need full disclosure, there is no export button, only the contact listed in the event’s legal pages.

These switches belong to the host: approval requirement and the AI content filter. ① Photo Approval System – the counter 1/1 says this tab asks exactly one question. ② the two answers: Yes, review first holds every photo back until you approve it; No, show immediately right below it (active here) puts it straight into the gallery. ③ the bar that stays at the bottom: Show Preview and Save Changes (just Save on a phone). Further down the same page come the Show approval bar in the gallery switch and the AI Content Filter.

When the storage period ends

Every event is online for a limited time only. Once that period is over, the gallery is closed and the content is removed. How long that is, the organiser decides – details in How long do photos stay online?

Tip

Download your favourite photos while the gallery is still open. Afterwards you cannot get to them any more.
